The annual Miss Universe competition will be held in Moscow later this year, organisers announced on Sunday.

It will be the first time the pageant has been held in Russia and the first return to a European venue for Miss Universe since the 2000 pageant in Cyprus.

The announcement was made by Donald Trump, owner of the Miss Universe Organisation, and the current American Miss Universe titleholder, Olivia Culpo.

The event will be held in the capital’s Crocus City Hall on November 9, Global Beauties website reported.

Ninety contestants are expected to arrive in Russia around October 15 for the pre-pageant activities, added the website.

The Miss Universe pageant has been held anually since 1952. Russia’s sole winner was former police officer Oxana Fyodorova in 2002.
