Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni in Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia [Xinhua]
Xi visited Cambodia and Bangladesh (the first in 30 years) ahead of the Summit. At the BRICS Summit, Xi urged business leaders in the member states to promote confidence and contribute to global growth by looking for ways to boost investment in fellow emerging economies.
In Cambodia last week, Xi met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and the two pledged to strengthen their strategic cooperation in a number of projects and economic sectors.
In addition to signing 31 agreements of cooperation, the two leaders agreed on the construction of the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone (SSEX).
The SSEZ is an overseas economic and trade cooperation zone agreed between Cambodia and China, and is expected to hold up to 300 factories once completed. So far, 100 companies have started operations there.
China is also Cambodia’s largest trading partner and greatest source of foreign investment.
Wang also spoke of Xi’s visit to Bangladesh where the two sides issued a joint declaration, upgrading their existing relationship to a strategic cooperative partnership.
Xi and Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina agreed that their countries will cooperate on major projects such as in the production capacity, energy and electricity, transportation, telecommunications, infrastructure and agriculture sectors.
Wang also said that the two countries’ delegations signed more than 30 important cooperative treaties.
