Signifying the growing commercial linkages between China and India, a subsidiary of major Chinese train manufacturer, CSR Corporation Ltd., has sold 21 cars to New Delhi’s subway system, CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive said on Saturday.

The sale marked the company’s second order from India. The company exported 15 metro cars to New Delhi in 2010.

Following talks between Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang, the two sides signed an agreement to co-operate on transport technology, including the roads sector, and exchange ideas on transport policy.

The Chinese locomotive company said the trains would be more energy efficient and thus be an industry model in India, which is affected by power shortages.

Chinese firms are already working on Indian metro projects.

Shanghai Urban Construction Group (SUCG) has formed a joint venture (JV) with Indian conglomerate L&T that has been awarded different projects by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

With another Indian company, it has already constructed the New Delhi Elevated Subway (viaduct) for the second phase of DMRC’s project.
