China has rejected tweets made by US President Donald Trump that Beijing is not helping in denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula.

Trump had blamed insufficient progress in talks with North Korea on China, which he said was not helping like it once did because of the growing trade war with America.

The US President a day earlier canceled a visit by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to North Korea because he claimed Pyongyang was not living up to its commitments.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said that Trump’s claims were baseless and iressponsible.

He said that China has always called for nuclearization through dialogue and political diplomacy. China has always steadfastly stood against any military option on the Korean Peninsula.

On Sunday, North Korea’s state media accused the US of preparing for war by training crack American troops in special drills in Japan, “while wearing a smile on its face.”

The Pentagon said there were no drills of US troops in Japan.

Meanwhile, South Korea – which has been making progress in talks with its neighbor said it regretted Trump’s decision to cancel Pompeo’s trip to Pyongyang.

Trump has tweeted that he expects Pompeo to go to North Korea at a later date.
