13 Russians die in bus accident in India

Thirteen Russian nationals were killed on Tuesday as a bus ferrying them to a holy Hindu site of Gangotri fell off the road and plunged into the Bhagirathi River in in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand.

Gangotri, in Uttarkashi district, is where Hinduism’s most holy river, the Ganges, originates.

The tragic accident occurred on Tuesday 8:30 GMT when the bus with 13 Russians on board, was on its way from Uttarkashi to Gangotri, local police said.

Top administrative officials are at the spot, says local media reports.

Thousands visit the Gangotri site every year. Pilgrims also visit the 18th-century Gangotri temple.
