The death toll in China’s flood and typhoon-hit areas have risen to 105 while 115 are missing.

Northeast China has been devastated by heavy floods while a typhoon lashed the southern regions.

3.72 million people in northeast China and 8.37 million in the south have been affected, said the ministry report.

Liaoning and Guangdong Province have reported the most number of casualties from the disasters, with 54 deaths and 22 deaths respectively, China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs said Monday.

Over 256,000 hectares of farmland in northeast China, one of the country’s major breadbaskets, has been affected.

The Chinese government on Monday upgraded its emergency response level to cope with flooding

Typhoon Utor continued to wreak havoc in China’s southern regions after making landfall Wednesday in Guangdong.

The disasters have cost the state exchequer direct economic losses of 9.86 billion yuan (1.6 billion U.S. dollars) in northeast China and more than 10 billion yuan in the south.
