Low-cost Indian private carrier, SpiceJet, is set to launch its services from Delhi to southern China’s Guangzhou city from February this year.

This will make it the only private Indian airline to fly to China.

SpiceJet will fly the Guangzhou-Delhi route four days a week and commercial flights on this route will start from February 8, an airline spokesperson said.

Bilateral trade between India and China reached $66.47 billion in 2012.

China is India’s largest trading partner.

The airline would be operating the flight between Delhi and Guangzhou with a 189-seater Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft.

“Guangzhou makes our debut in the Chinese sky. We are offering the air connectivity at very affordable fare to the passengers from India and China.

“The service also reiterates growing economic interest between two of the world’s largest economies,” said Neil Mills, SpiceJet’s Chief Executive Officer at the inaugural function held at Guangzhou on Tuesday.

Guangzhou is South China’s centre of education, culture and communication and is one of the three biggest exhibition cities in China.

The city is a leading manufacturing and economic region of China and therefore one of the most important centers of foreign commerce, the statement said.
